The Challenge
Picture this:
A reputable heavy duty truck repair shop is looking to gain new business, but a simple search on Google leaves them nowhere to be found. They've been successful on great word of mouth, high quality service, and an easy-to-work-with attitude alone, but want to take their business to the next level. How do they reach their target audience and drive up their customer base?
Over the past 15 years, Coppertop Truck Repair has grown from a one-man operation to an expansive business that includes mobile emergency services to help stranded truckers. Coppertop has grown to have a shop with three service body trucks and offer a variety of different shop services including CVIP inspections. With this growth came new challenges to keep both the trucks and the shop busy.
“I only have so much time in a day to cold call and drop off business cards or flyers,” says owner-operator Kirk Burchak. “The idea of spending a bunch of money advertising on billboards or in trucking magazines seemed overwhelming, expensive, and not very measureable. My past advertising experience led to requests for work on diesel Rams and F250s. That’s not what I do. I want heavy truck and fleet maintenance work.”
Coppertop needed to reach the right type of customers to keep their business growing and thriving.
The Solution
Building A Solid Foundation
Edward Langer's approach was to perform an in-depth industry analysis and hold a discovery meeting with owner-operator Kirk Burchak. We asked him about his marketing goals and his vision for the future of his company. He wanted more emergency service work as well as fleet repair work in order to keep his shop busy with emergency mobile heavy truck repairs, commercial vehicle inspections, and fleet maintenance work. Kirk explained that Coppertop Truck Repair excelled at this type of work, but wasn't being considered for it due to their weak online presence. When people searched for his services on their phones, Coppertop did not show up at all.
"Truckers are constantly checking their phones and using them to look up parts, maintenance tips, and more. It's the nature of their lifestyle, being in the truck away from a computer all the time," says Kirk, “If we aren’t showing up when they’re searching, we’re missing out.”
So what next?
We got to work, putting together a strategic digital marketing plan that would help achieve Kirk's goals. We started by creating an entirely new look and feel for his brand, then built a new website designed to generate leads and sales especially on mobile devices. Next, we instituted an on-page SEO strategy to improve the website's visibility in Google's search results.
The final step was to identify opportunities that Kirk's competition wasn't seizing and take advantage of them. We created a list of targeted, high traffic keywords to drive qualified leads to Coppertop's website through Google Search and Display advertising. Once on the targeted landing pages, customers would have the opportunity to convert by requesting a quote or calling Coppertop right from the page.
Data Rules
Once Coppertop Truck Repair started receiving more traffic we were able to audit what was working and what wasn't. From there we could refine the campaign, making it more targeted and relevant to the ideal audience. Every change and adjustment we made was based on incoming data. We used logic to make changes and campaign optimizations in order to replicate success and continue bringing growth and value to Kirk's business.
The Results
Before working with Edward Langer, Coppertop Truck Repair had a brand and website that needed to be refreshed. Their organic search results listings were appearing on page 80 at best, they had no digital marketing campaigns, and unless you knew of them you probably weren't going to easily find them online.
Now:
Coppertop Truck Repair's organic listing can be found on the first page of the search engine results. Within days of launching the digital marketing campaign, Kirk was receiving calls and quote requests from across Northern Alberta. He has seen a 30% growth in work activity. With the help of his new website, Kirk has been able to identify an even more targeted audience for his services.
It gets better:
Coppertop Truck Repair has seen incredible growth since the launch of their new website. Some notable data from their campaign includes:
- 1600% lift in impressions
- Monthly engagement points are up 257%
- Conversions are up 200%
- Along with the increased growth we have seen a 50% decrease in both the cost-per-click and the cost-per-conversion, meaning that the campaign is getting more from its budget
This measured success has led to the recent launch of a Gmail advertising campaign to expand Coppertop's online presence even further.
